The Stag
The Stag, "a privately owned pub that is truly independent where we take pride in our friendly hospitality welcoming the whole family.." This is one of the reasons we are featured as “Pick of the pubs” AA Pub Guide 2009, (Pick of the Pubs for Berkshire). Our guests can enjoy a range of beverages and wine that we have hand selected as well as indulge from our fine menu of home cooked food. And for those relaxing for a working lunch we offer free wireless broadband internet.
Being part of the village we have built an excellent rapport with local producers to provide the very best of English produce on our menu. We have become well know for our dishes that include local fresh trout, free range eggs local beef, pork and game foods as venison, pigeon and pheasant. Besides a choice from our current menu we offer a daily specials menu and a childrens' menu.
Leckhampstead only being 6 miles from Newbury and the showground is a popular home away from home. Accommodation is available at “Bow River Guest House” where horses can also be stabled.
During winter the warmth of The Stag's wood burning stove is a welcome treat for those walkers from the local Ridgeway, or families who have been enjoying the nearby Snelsmore Common, and of course Wellingtons and dogs are expected.
During summer many of our guests take advantage of our newly refurbished beer garden and enjoy one of the many events we host such as live music. Quiz nights and “Aftershock”, a pop and rock cover band, are regular events at The Stag. Other events that we have hosted recently include a charity celebrity chef evening and being involved in the film shoot of “Scarcrow”; a feature film recently screened at the “LA film festival” that used Leckhampstead as its backdrop. The Stag regularly provides lunches for walking parties, local shoot and hunt meets where we offer special prearranged menus.
Although we try our hardest to accommodate we do advise that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
We do look forward to seeing you soon.
